Jan. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Phil Bundy, age 43, begins his official quest for the PGA today. And his son, Charlie (aged 5), is his inspiration. “He also loves golf,” Bundy explains. “And if I don’t do this, someday he will ask why.”

Given Bundy’s experience and skills, many others might wonder as well.

He began golfing at the age of 9 and found an immediate love and skill for the game. As a junior golfer champion, he competed in tournaments across the country. After developing his high school golf team, he won the 1984 Maryland State High School Championship by 10 strokes—a record margin of victory.

At Wake Forest University, he practiced under legendary golf coach Jesse Haddock and was a member of the 1986 NCAA Championship Team that included current PGA Tour players Billy Andrade and Len Mattiace.

“After college, instead of trying to qualify for the PGA Tour like my teammates, I earned an MBA at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland,” he says. “I started a golf marketing and management business at the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship and over the past 17 years, I have played many roles in the golf industry, including golf instructor, course manager, tournament director, agent, manufacturer, distributor, marketer, and publicist.”

But even after being away from serious competition for two decades, Bundy hit the circuit and subsequently won the NGT Virginia Beach Open in August 2007 and the NGT Capital Series Championship in September 2007 on the now defunct National Golf Tour. The Virginia Beach tournament was his first professional victory and he has also now played several mini-tour events.

Bundy’s maturity and age will bring unique components to his journey to the PGA. He retains more life experience to apply throughout his quest, has a team in place to help him reach his goal and will journalistically document his quest.

In addition, Bundy will help support charitable organizations by performing golf demonstrations at junior clinics in conjunction with PGA Tour events and collect financial resources and in-kind donations to benefit worthwhile golf development programs. “Junior golf was the beginning of my dream,” he confirms. “I hope that my efforts will provide an opportunity for kids to have access to the game and begin their own dreams.”

Bundy is utilizing social media to document his quest and has already built a following for his journey. He was nominated for a Shorty Award in Sports for his use of Twitter, and he is recognized as one of the Top 10 of Twitter Elite in Maryland by Twitter Grader—an independent ranking service.

The following organizations have sponsored Bundy: Annapolis CEO Group, Bridgestone Golf, Tour Edge, OGIO, V1Pro Swing Analysis Software, P3ProSwing Golf Simulator, Mt. Airy Eye Care, LLC, CIBA Vision and more. Several individuals are also providing sponsorship.

He has made appearances for the following organizations: Bingham McCutchen LLP, Booz Allen Hamilton, Buick Motors, Collier Shannon Scott, PLLC, Entrepreneur Invitational, Gaithersburg Germantown Chamber of Commerce, Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), Lockheed Martin, Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Mid-Atlantic Golf Show, National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM), Prudential, SAP, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, University of Maryland, and the U.S. Chinese Golf Association.

Bundy, who also the Inventor of the GolfSystemic, resides near Washington DC with his wife, Donna and their son. “It’s my hope,” he says. “That my quest will inspire my son to always pursue his dreams.”
