Jan 05, 2009 – Reach For It will hold an expo in Atlanta, Ga. on the second Saturday in January 2009. Lighten Up Expo, an educational expo for healthy weight loss through bariatric surgery and how weight loss surgery can enhance the quality of life. The mission of Lighten Up Expo is to educate, motivate, give support, guidance and provide resources beyond those already supplied by the internet, or literature. The Expo will help people to recreate their life in a healthy and physically active way.
The workshops will be full of information that give attendees the help they need to take charge of the struggles that come with being over weight, in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The expo features notable speakers in the bariatric industry including, Colleen Cook, Chef Dave, Dr. Jacqueline Jacques, and Lisa Avellino.
Cook, a successful weight-loss surgery patient from 1995, is the founder and president of Bariatric Support Centers International;
a company that specializes in providing education and support services for weight-loss surgery patients. She is a also the founder and former chair of the National Support Group Network for Allied Health Sciences, a committee of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
The night portion of Lighten Up Expo features "An Evening To Remember", a Black Tie, Evening Gown Gala for people challenged by weight. The evening will feature Lucille Ball and Ethel Mertz (impersonators), on Saturday night from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Gala will give attendees a feeling of confidence to stay on track in the New Year. Because of the education objective, the Reach For It Foundation will award two (2) one thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships to high school students at "An Evening To Remember."
