Samuel Eto'o showed after the match with Mallorca a new example of commitment to himself and the rest of the team. The Cameronian striker, who left the Camp Nou with his son, was very happy for having achieved a victory, but regretted his performance as he felt he could have done better.
Precisely for this reason, the African striker surprised everyone when he said "the truth is that after the performance I had, I think I came back late. I missed a day of training, and I couldn't show my best level of play."
Eto'o explained why he arrived 3 days earlier than scheduled and explained that "I had done everything in Cameron that I had to do. I was with my parents, I rested and I saw all my friends, the shame was that I did not return earlier in order to help the team in a better way."
When reporters asked him to compare his return to that of Leo Messi, who could not arrive on time due to an alleged air traffic strike, The Cameron International again surprized the journalists by saying "I arrived late, but Messi didn't. Leo is the best in the world, and if I were the coach I would let him do whatever he wanted. If he arrived the same day or before it would not change anything, he is special."
He also had words of praise for Carles Puyol, who left his central position role to play right back against Mallorca and joining the attack causing alot of danger. "Puyol always plays well, put him anywhere and he will always play good. He is an important player for us because he sets an example for us all," he said.
Overall, the Barça striker highlighted the fact that the team took the three points against Mallorca based on "Patience, and hard work. We suffered alot to win the match, but thanks to this suffering, we have achieved another win."
Eto'o also said that most important thing to him is to defend the FC Barcelona shirt and try his best to not make his team lose. One always has to provide the highest level and against Mallorca they proved that if you work hard you can win.
In this sense, Eto'o recalled that "not only Mallorca will create problems for us, many other teams will as we are not invincible, we have not won all these matches so easily as people are saying."
Finally the FC Barcelona forward underlined the fact that "in the last two matches, with Mallorca and Villareal, we've come back from behind to win the match, this is a clear sign that this team never gives up and always works hard."
