Samantha Nelson of Andover, Minnesota was recently was named the local first place winner at The Art Institutes International Minnesota in The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition in the fashion marketing, merchandising and retail management category.
The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition was created to encourage and reward young fashion talent.
The eighteen-year-
In addition to her tuition scholarship, Samantha will progress to the National Passion for Fashion Competition where her entry will be judged against other local winners from throughout North America for the Competition’
Local Passion for Fashion Scholarship winner says, “As I’ve grown out of playing with Barbie dolls, my interest in fashion has continued to grow and I have never been so proud of myself until the day I found out I was awarded the local winner for the Passion for Fashion Competition. I feel that I am accomplishing a childhood dream!”
According to John Schulz, Academic Director for the Fashion & Retail Management program at The Art Institutes International Minnesota, “I was impressed by Samantha's creativity in coming up with a concept that could work very well in retail. Her presentation was first rate, her attention to detail was very good, and her use of numbers to support her business case was impressive.”
The theme of this year’s Fashion Design category is evening wear. In the Fashion Design category, students were asked to create innovative and wearable designs for evening events. In the Fashion Marketing, Merchandising and Retail Management category, competitors created concepts for fashion marketing, merchandising and retail management plans.
