A home study programme has been launched to help teenage mums balance babies and learning.
Busy Mummy, is a flexible home study accredited programme for teenage mums and mums-to-be aged 16 to 19 who want to return to learning and move on to employment, training or further education.
The programme, which lasts around six to eight months, consists of seven units on topics including coping as a teenage parent, job search skills, benefits and childcare.
A total of 104 places have been made available through across Coventry and Warwickshire through funding obtained from the local Learning Skills Council.
Busymummy has been established in regions throughout the UK for five years and has a success rate of 74 per cent with childcare costs of up to six hours per week being covered by Care to Learn Funding.
Bushra Naseem, of Connexions, said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer this provision to young people in Coventry and Warwickshire, thanks to funding from the LSC.
“It’s often difficult for young mums to re-engage with education or employment after having a baby, but this programme aims to provide them with the necessary confidence and skills.
“The added benefits are that the programme fits around the needs of the individual and that young people can learn in the comfort of their own home with support from their Busymummy coach.”
Already 28 mums and mums-to-be in Coventry have enrolled and the programme will be launched in Warwickshire in the new year.
