According to some prominent industry associations in Madhya Pradesh, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the state have not received adequate benefits from the state government this year. A number of issues, including poor bank credit availability, corruption, red-tapism, lack of adequate skilled manpower and poor infrastructure, have affected the growth of SMEs in the state. Though the MP Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has initiated a few measures to help small industrial units in the state, he has largely failed to resolve the major problems plaguing the industries.
The state government has failed to address key issues concerning the abolition of octroi, removal of the multiplicity of tax, rationalisation of entry tax, creation of a separate industrial township, review of labour laws and initiating a decentralised establishment system for SMEs among others.
Red-tapism has been identified as a major hurdle on the road to development for small units in MP. The bureaucrats have failed to fulfil the promises made by State CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan to offer various facilities to the local units this year.
