Since congress mandated to the FCC to set a schedule to caption all broadcast video, New Day Media has been keeping busy encoding thousands of titles of video for broadcast. “Much of the content is weekly perishable video that may or may not be seen again,” said Patrick Murphy head of all captioning services at New Day. “However these projects are very exciting because they will be seen by millions of hearing impaired people.”
“Hellgate”
a 1952 film distributed by Kit Parker Films is airing on Stars Movie Channel which currently is being prepared for syndicaton to broadcast early in 2009. The other two titles being captioned by New Day Media are the 1951 film titled “Tom Brown School Days” and the 1952 film “The Pickwick Papers” based on a Charles Dickens novel. Both titles are scheduled to be released on DVD in the caption format. The later titles are not required by law to be captioned, but their distributor, VCI Entertainment, is committed to captioning as many DVD movie releases as possible. “We believe it makes good sense to provide captioning to our releases. Movie Captioning is only a portion of what New Day Captioning is involved in. By captioning over 100 projects each month for several years, New Day Captioning has captioned well over 6,000 titles. These titles consist of everything from music videos to religious programming and infomercials. Additionally, captioning corporate videos is also becoming a large portion of New Days business. Today corporations who have a large percentage of hearing impaired employees are beginning to caption everything they distribute.
