As DOCKLANDS takes shape, developers are unveiling some of their most glamorous and dramatic projects. Vivas Lend Lease, which is developing the Vistoria Harbour precinct on the southern edge of Docklands, has just released units for sale in two residential towers to be built at the intersection of Bourke and Collins streets.

Designed by Bates Smart, it will be known as Convesso Concavo – reflecting the towers’ curved exteriors that replicate the waterfront, the Yarra River behind and Victoria Harbour at the front.

Both will be more than 30 storeys high with a wide base and a soaring tower. Each will have more than 200 units and the buildings will be joined by an elevated pedestrian bridge. At ground level, they will link into the pedestrian paths that cross the area to connect shops and residences to the waterfront.

The first of the two towers to be built will have Waterside Place East as its address and will have ground-floor shops facing Bourke Street, 69 one and two-bedroom units facing the city and a tower of 117 one, two and three-bedroom units with nine penthouses on top.
And there are 17 three and three-bedroom-plus-study luxury apartments that will open to the waterfront. These range in price from $2.8 million to $4.7 million and each will be the size of a house, says Vivas Lend Lease marketing manager James Curtain.

City-facing units begin at $465,000 and tower apartments begin from just below $900,000.
Mr Curtain says demand for Convesso Concavo’s waterfront luxury apartments and the largest tower apartments is mostly from empty nesters, while young Docklands workers and country buyers are seeking smaller apartments.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom tower apartments have been particularly popular because of “their efficient floor plans, northerly aspect and the views over Victoria Harbour”, he says.

Fixtures and fittings vary depending on price and floor plan but the overall look in Convesso Concavo is light and sleek.

All units will have outdoor areas – some looking towards the city and the Yarra River, others across Victoria Harbour towards the Bolte Bridge – and both buildings will have podium-level recreation areas, one with a gym and pool and the other with a cinema.

A display suite is open at 791 Bourke Street but a purpose-built display housing a tower apartment and a waterfront apartment will open late in December further down the quay.

Excavation begins in February.
