Penny Halgren, master quilt block maker, is pleased to demonstrate this cheerful block to celebrate the incoming 2009 New Year.
“This block is loaded with different styles of triangles, and using bright, colorful fabric makes the finished quilt block look like the confetti used to bring in each New Year.” remarked Halgren. “In addition to bright colors, I used fabric that had stars and circles, increasing the interest and activity in the block.”
The Happy New Year Quilt Block is a quilt pattern that offers some challenges as you sew the pieces together.
Most quilt blocks are made up of smaller pieces that form squares within the block.
The Happy New Year quilt pattern includes various style triangles which means that you are sewing many bias seams. The challenge is to make sure that you sew them together without stretching the pieces and getting them out of shape.
Using the tips and shortcut techniques which Halgren demonstrates in her video, making this block is easy, and quilters will know how to prevent their fabric from stretching out of shape.
This is a block that is perfect for celebrating the incoming New Year, or by choosing more subtle colors, you can create a quilt block for quilts used throughout the year.
