My wife and I just went on a cruise on the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship during Thanksgiving week. Therefore the sudden disappearance of Jennifer Seitz during her Christmas cruise is particularly troubling and alarming.

Undeniably the Pearl which cruises out of Miami on a week-long tour of the western Caribbean gets its share of mishaps as does any cruise ship. It is worth noting disappearances are not always the result of a criminal act. Cruise ship disappearances are frequently the result of happy-go-lucky passengers not exercising caution and while being playful, falling overboard. Such pure misadventure -- falls overboard, drunken silliness turned to tragedy, and foolish behavior can certainly be deadly when out on the high seas.

As for speculation about a man throwing his wife overboard, it understandably is one of many scenarios worth investigating - which the FBI and Norwegian cruise line is doing. Most married couples experience a degree of anger periodically with their beloved spouse, but would never resort to murder. Murder aboard a cruise while on vacation with one's in-laws is a bit more far fetched and unimaginable.

Some say Mexican authorities have suspended their search for a Florida woman who seemed to have fallen from a Norwegian cruise line ship balcony during a Christmas week cruise. Jennifer Seitz's family think she might have jumped overboard, but the FBI is still investigating whether someone pushed her.

The Mexican Navy said late Monday it had ended its search for Jennifer Ellis Seitz, a Florida journalist, who was reported missing by her husband about eight hours after a surveillance camera captured a person falling overboard on Christmas night. The U.S. Coast Guard also called off its search Monday.

The Associated Press reported the 36-year-old woman's family said she had "previous emotional issues," but they said there were no outward signs of distress while on the seven-night cruise from Miami aboard Norwegian cruise line.

Seitz's mother joined her daughter and son-in-law on the cruise saying Jennifer was a very happy person and excited about starting her new job. She and her husband, with whom she was celebrating her anniversary aboard the Norwegian cruise line, had talked about starting a family.

Various reports have surfaced, but Norwegian cruise line is said to be cooperating with the FBI. Jennifer's husband has not yet been charged with any crime.

Jennifer a freelance writer wrote an online article titled, "Battling the Bulge Onboard," about how not to gain weight while aboard a ship. Seitz described herself at her personal website as an "avid traveler and an amateur chef."

Curiously, according to the Associated Press, Raymond Seitz was arrested in April on a charge of domestic violence-battery after being accused of head-butting his wife. The charge was dropped after he entered a pretrial diversion program. Records show that she asked the prosecutor not to pursue the case.

Time will tell what becomes of this case. Our sympathy and condolences to the husband and family of Jennifer Seitz, a fellow Floridian who has been missing since her Norwegian cruise during Christmas.
