From a handshake as a kid at one the Boise State University football games to knowing Chris Childs as, well..."Just call me Chris," Jamaal Al-Din sees Chris Childs, the former Boise State Bronco and NBA great as a tremendous community leader in Boise and throughout the nation.

"Childs was spectacular on the basketball court," said Jamaal. "What I remember most, is his patented, high-arching, 3-point shot, from the top of the key."    

Jamaal Al-Din, owner of Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227, played high school basketball as the state's leading scorer at local Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Idaho, for Ed Palubinskas. Palubinskas is an Olympic basketball record setter who played at BYU-Idaho (formerly Ricks College) and LSU for Coach Dale Brown. Ed Palubinskas also was a private free-throw tutor for thge NBA's Shaquille O'Neal and WNBA's Lisa Leslie.

"I also remember the head-to-head match-ups of Boise State (Bobby Dye, Chris Childs, Arnell Jones, Greg Dodd, Mike Sanor) against Oregon State University (Coach Ralph Miller & NBA great Gary Payton). Childs seemed like he literally owned Gary Payton in college competition, said Al-Din. "He scored and had really good games, but Payton, without a doubt has become a destined NBA Hall of Famer."  

Childs success and knowledge of the game was exemplified also, by the high-school career of his son Jesse who won an unprecedented series of back-to-back Idaho State Prep Basketball Championships (a phenominal accomplishment at any level of basketball), at Boise, Idaho's Borah High-School and now attends University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
