San Francisco, CA  – Debuting in the Travel section of Apple's iTunes App Store, HearPlanet is a new application for the iPhone (and iTouch) that turns any user’s cell phone into a talking tour guide.

With well over 200,000 points of interest users can instantly access spoken information on places all around them, and anywhere in the world via search.

HearPlanet immediately serves up all the landmarks, historic sites, cultural spots, nature areas, famous buildings, sports venues, recreation areas and more.  You can use HearPlanet to learn all about the places to go, and places you pass every day.  On the bus, train or road trip you can find interesting information on places you otherwise would have missed. It’s a great way to learn about your surroundings and entertain the whole family.  It’s amazing what you’ll find.

Unlike traditional guides where you have to thumb through lots of pages and read small print, HearPlanet speaks to you like a museum audio guide, allowing you to take in the sights and remain present to the splendor of your environment.  If you imagine the planet is one giant museum, then HearPlanet is your audio guide to the world. It's like having a docent or professional tour guide always by your side.

HearPlanet uses geolocation technology to present users with spoken descriptions of places nearby.  Powerful search features also allow users to enter ‘what’ and/or ‘where’ to find anything, anywhere in the world.  HearPlanet has content on hundreds of thousands of places and is adding more every day. As HearPlanet grows, new locations and content show up automatically.  When new features are added free upgrades install seamlessly.

Steven Echtman, founder of HearPlanet, was inspired to build the application during a trip to Europe. After spending a day on a walking tour, Steven realized he’d already passed most of the tour stops wandering the city the day before.  If only his cell phone was able to get information on the places he was passing he could have had the information he what on his schedule, without spending an extra day waiting for a tour.  It was here that he realized the potential for accessing spoken information on points of interest on one’s personal mobile device.   And thus, the idea for HearPlanet was born.

HearPlanet debuted in Apple’s iTunes App Store on Christmas Eve for the low introductory price of $3.99.
