Unlike traditional ways of helping charities, this intriguing idea offers any of the 2.4 billion mobile phone users of the World a way to help change lives without spending a penny. In return for registering with the service (which is free), users will receive local fast food discounts to their mobile via text message.
The site is the brainchild of a young British entrepreneur Andrew Cargill. Fed up of seeing horrific images of famine and the fall of the British economy he decided to do something about it. By using his experience of running the UK's largest online student menu site, iGotMunchies.co.uk, he decided to fund and produce a new site interestingly titled DrunkenDiscounts.com.
Andrew Cargill commented, "When people register on the site their mobile number and postcode are inserted into our database. We can then send out fast food related discounts specific to their location, saving them money. Fifty percent of the profits raised by advertising revenues will be sent to the charity, Mary's Meals. Which helps educate and feed the children of Malawi."
