Move Over Rudolph, JamCam Helps Commuters Navigate Seattle's Snowy Streets

With it's new real time JamCam, Holiday Group hopes to ease the drive through Seattle's SODO district, where the recent snow storms have made for treacherous driving conditions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Dec 24, 2008 – For a few hardy souls, the recent weather in the Pacific Northwest may have seemed delightful, but for Seattle commuters unaccustomed to driving in snow, it's been downright frightful. A combination of early-winter storms and sub-freezing temperatures have left the Puget Sound region buried in snow and ice, looking very much like a scene from White Christmas. For travelers hoping to head home for the holidays, however, airport and passenger rail delays have brought to mind scenes more reminiscent of the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles--minus the funny parts.

When employees of Holiday Group (www.holidaygroup.com), one of the nation's largest timeshare resale companies, recently checked the Department of Transportation Web site, they found no traffic cameras near their location on Airport Way South monitoring road conditions. So they decided to take matters into their own hands.

With it's new real time JamCam (http://www.seattletrafficjam.com), Holiday hopes to ease the drive through Seattle's SODO (South of Downtown) district, where the recent snow storms have made for treacherous driving conditions.

"Our building is on Airport Way South at Spokane Street," said CEO Alan Renberger, a busy route in this part of Seattle. We wanted a way for our employees to check traffic conditions before they left for work. After talking with our tech people, we decided to put up our own traffic camera and make it available for public viewing on the Web."

Holiday's JamCam has enabled its employees--as well as other Seattle commuters--to check the traffic flow on this strategic thoroughfare, adjacent to Interstate 5. There are numerous other traffic-related links available on the site as well.

"We felt there was only one thing worse than being stuck in one of Seattle's infamous traffic jams," said Holiday president, David Skinner, "and that was being stuck in a snowdrift, waiting for a tow truck. We have a clear view of Airport Way South from our office windows, so we thought we'd share a little slice of our winter wonderland with everybody else."

Skinner also noted that the recent visit from Old Man Winter might have left some folks pining for warmer climes. "Since Holiday happens to be in the vacation business, I think that sounds like a great idea," he said with a grin. "We'd love to help send them on a timeshare vacation to somewhere warm and dry, but if not, at least we can help them out with our JamCam."
