This spring, young women from every corner of the state between the ages of 13 and 17 (Teen) and 9 to 12 (Junior Teen) will convene in Somerset Kentucky for a different kind of pageant. Says Executive Director Lisa Clark, " the pageant is a celebration of today's youth. You will see contestants of all types and backgrounds participating in Miss Teen and Junior Teen Kentucky-World Pageant. The judging categories consist of swimsuit, evening gown, interview, and beauty/poise. For Junior Teens, casual wear replaces swimsuit. Contestants in the Miss Teen and Junior Teen Kentucky-World pageant are active in their school and community.
Over $130,000 in college scholarships and prizes will be awarded at the inaugural Miss Teen and Junior Teen Kentucky World Pageant. The new Miss Teen Kentucky-World will win a prize package valued at over $10,000, including competition wardrobe when she goes to compete at the national Miss Teen United Sates-World pageant held in Houston in June, 2009. The winner of the Miss Junior Teen Kentucky-World pageant will win a prize package valued at over $3,000, including travel to Houston to support her pageant big sister!. What is different from this pageant says Clark, is that it is not a winner take all event. In the optional academic achievement competition, the winner and the first and second runners up, who qualify for admission winn full tuition college scholarships to Berea College. Additionally, the remaining top 5 who enter the academic achievement competition receive a $4,000 scholarship, courtesy of Georgetown College. We want to acknowledge the young women of our state who are achievers and activators in their school and community, who have goals and wish to pursue their higher education.
Clark, the reigning Mrs. Kentucky ATOC, is known for her work as a fragrance designer for the Candleberry Candle Company, and her volunteer work for the Miss America Organization. Mrs. Clark's goal as the executive director of the Miss Teen Kentucky-World organization is to bring a heightened awareness and excessive reward to young women through an additional outlet in Kentucky, promoting scholastic achievement, community involvement and a healthy lifestyle.
