Dec. 23, 2008 - PRLog -- PCP hosted a national consultative workshop on “government – CSO Partnerships; towards promoting a PPP framework”.

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, being an implementing partner of AKDN’s Civil Society Programme (CSP) in Pakistan, undertook a small scale exploratory research on the nature and dimensions of Government - CSO partnerships in Pakistan. The study attempted to define collaboration on theoretical plane and examined some existing successful examples of collaboration. The workshop was attended by high ranking government officials, representatives of civil society, donors and eminent citizens.

At the occasion the chief guest Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, member National Assembly appreciated the AKDN-PCP endeavour to undertake the exploratory study on the important subject of Govt-CSO partnerships. She highlighted the GoP’s policy of adopting a participatory approach to development. The study’s findings were presented by Ms. Anjum R. Haque, Executive Director, PCP for discussion and discourse by the participants. Welcome remarks were given by Mr. Zaffar A. Khan, Co—Chair Research, PCP and elaborated on the importance of govt-CSO partnerships.

As part of the continued consultative endeavour, PCP shared the draft report’s findings with stakeholders. The workshop aimed at soliciting views and recommendations from diverse and experienced range of development practitioners and stakeholders in Pakistan in order to find a way forward to foster stronger and effective collaboration between government and CSOs on a sustainable basis. The stakeholders input will be incorporated in the draft report, which will assist PCP in producing the final report.

The Centre was established in 2001 as an independent non-profit support organization with a mission to increase the volume and effectiveness of philanthropy for social development in Pakistan through facilitating linkages between the philanthropists, non-profit organizations and government.

Philanthropy related evidence based research is central to the centre’s work and aims to enhance understanding of various dimensions of philanthropy and civil society. This programme on one hand endeavours to expand the empirical map on voluntary giving which largely remains untapped, while simultaneously the research findings help stakeholders better plan and organise social investment for civic benefit in Pakistan. Sharing this evidence-based information through effective communication channels is also an integral part of PCP’s mandate.
