BioAMPs International Wins ‘Most Promising Company' Award at Beijing China Bio Investor Forum

—BioAMPs International selected for its unique antimicrobial peptide technology that selectively targets bacterial cells and kills drug-resistant bacterial species—

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 22, 2008 -
BEIJING, China — BioAMPs International today announced that it won the highly regarded ‘Most Promising Company’ competition at the China Bio Investor Forum in Beijing, China after presenting its business plan and identifying the critical need for its potential solution for the global problem of drug-resistant bacteria.  The China Bio® Investor Forum is one of China’s premier life sciences venture capital conferences.

BioAMPs International was selected the winner by an esteemed panel of judges comprised of venture capitalists and licensing representatives from biotechnology companies.  BioAMPs was selected from among 20 life science company entrants.

“The China Bio Investor Forum attracts leading investors, top-tier venture capital funds and promising young life sciences companies from China and the U.S.” said Greg B. Scott, President and Founder, China Bio® Accelerator.  “BioAMPs International, in conjunction with its China collaboration partner, Changchun Protelight Pharmaceutical and Biotchnology, Ltd., was selected as The Most Promising Company winner based on the merits of its technology, its Sino-American business strategy and its potential to address an unmet medical need.”

BioAMPs International has developed an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) technology that has overcome the problems encountered by previous generations of AMPs and is effective against numerous multi-drug resistant bacteria strains, including Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)., Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, among others.  The AMPs selectively target bacterial cell membranes and exert activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, while greatly reducing toxicity to human cells. The AMPs appear to circumvent all known routes to drug resistance typically deployed by bacteria cells in response to traditional antibiotic therapy. The goal of BioAMPs  is to develop and commercialize the first peptide solution to the global problem of multi-drug resistant bacteria.

“We are delighted to have been selected as the winner of the prestigious China Bio Investor Forum award, as the win validates our business model and technology, and confirms that there is a significant need for a unique peptide solution to the antibiotic-resistant bacteria problem”, said David A. DeLong, BioAMPs Technologies’ chief executive officer.

About BioAMPs International

BioAMPs International is a Colorado-based biotechnology company that discovers and develops proprietary, structurally-guided antimicrobial peptides that are designed to target bacterial cell membranes while sparing human blood and tissue cells.  The de novo peptides are structurally designed to alter hydrophobicity characteristics, thus creating a unique mechanism of action that targets the bacterial cell membrane, providing broad-spectrum activity and circumventing all known routes of drug resistance experienced by traditional antibiotics.
