With a global downturn in consumer confidence affecting our economy and with the U.S. now officially in a recession, and unemployment reaching staggering rates of over eight percent, there is a growing concern by local charities struggling to meet the rise in demand for middle income working families now forced to turn to these organizations for basic food and clothing.

One such charity is a Brooklyn based food package organization named “ Oneg Shabbos” that is privately funded and operated. Oneg Shabbos caters to underprivileged orthodox Jewish families by providing basic food packages to over 1,100 families assisting them in meeting their ever growing food expenses for honoring the Sabbath and Holidays with proper meals. One of the Organizations Executives wishing to remain anonymous has disclosed that the request for joining the list has more than grown by over Fourty percent.
When encountered with this emergency call for action, non other than the well known Humanitarian and Philanthropists David H Brooks jumped into action and has generously opened his wallet keeping the organization alive operative during these difficult times. Considering his past support for the organization and seeing the impact it has had on these families lives, Mr. Brooks saw the opportunity to give back to a community that he had known growing up and has grown so fond of.
Born the middle child to Jewish immigrants and Holocaust survivors, David H. Brooks grew up in a family of three boys of very modest means with formidable challenges. Faced with these hurdles, David managed to overcome and embrace these challenges, turning these challenges around to better his life and the lives of people surrounding him.

In his latter youth, David spent time growing up in Brooklyn, later relocating to Hewlett, Long Island . His mother was born in Warsaw , Poland spending four years in the Concentration Camp based in Auschwitz . She then escaped to Sweden and eventually arrived in the United States to live with an uncle from her side of the family. The remainder of her direct family all perished in Auschwitz . His mother is a strong minded and controlling woman whom David has always perceived as living a fearless life. She presently lives in Florida and suffers from Alzheimer ’s disease.
Needless to say, Mr. Brook continues to discretely actively seek acts of charitable kindness by supporting humane causes and community initiatives.
Considering the difficult days ahead, the organization welcomes any outside support to become involved in this unique organization that one hundred percent of its donations goes towards the carefully screened needy families.
