New York, NY—Twenty-
eight-year veteran registered nurse Veronica Johnson forays into fiction with a quirky, biting murder mystery. Writing as Teisha Bourne, Johnson penned her debut novel, Motif, (Belletristic Press, 2008), after being diagnosed with a vocal condition known as spasmodic dysponia, which constricts her vocal cords and, at times, leaves her unable to speak above a whisper.
Graduating high school thirteenth in her class at age 16, Johnson (Bourne) went on to attend Christian Brothers College in Memphis and later, studied nursing at the then named Memphis State University (University of Memphis). While attending MSU, Bourne pledged to the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, experienced campus life and being a Greek, which she describes as “the best time of my young life.”
Her youthful, free-spirited campus adventures inspired Motif. The novel revolves around statuesque nineteen-year-
old best friends forever, Tiffany Randal and Camisha Simmons, home on summer break from Fisk. The beauties hook up with Rayford Hunchings and Phillip Terrell for what seems like the perfect summer double-romance. Tiffany and Camisha soon find themselves caught up in Rayford and Phillip’s bizarre, nothing-is-as-
it-seems world—and prime suspects in a murder investigation. The lovely ladies can trust no one...not even each other. Bourne weaves a sinister tale on the pages of Motif that shouts with wicked hilarity and speaks for itself.
Born in a Navy hospital in Millington, TN and raised in Memphis, Bourne has a twenty-six-year-
old son, and is the Obstetric Patient Care Coordinator for the High Risk Antepartum Unit, Postpartum Unit, and Well Baby Nursery at the Regional Medical Center of Memphis. No stranger to the power of the pen, Bourne also writes lyrics with her husband of twenty-nine years, composer Gerald Johnson. She hopes to raise awareness of spasmodic dysponia through her writing.
