Dec. 19, 2008 - PRLog -- A new site has opened to make your Internet surfing more safe! It is CHECKing TORrents (checktor.com). CHECKTOR is a public non-profit organization which is commited to elimination of threats for Internet users.

There is a rising number of ways a person can be harmed through electronic devices, especially through computers. Because of unlawful actions of hackers and their software a computer user can lose data, private information, experience a system crash which all lead to stresses and money losses.

Intelligent people should unite to create a safe world around and prevent attacks on their electronic devices and their privacy. There should be services that help people who are not computer savvy remain protected from such attacks. We feel responsible to make everyone's Internet journeys more safe.

CHECKTOR has created server-based application that scans files distributed through so called torrent trackers that are extremely popular right now. The goal of a scan is to find viruses and delete links to infected files so nobody is able to access them.

The application searches for torrent trackers and files tracked there, downloads them to a server and acuires the data which is linked by torrent files. When the file is places on a server it is examined by an efficient antivirus software. The software is designed especially for server-based scanning. The files that are examined are harmful for desktop operating systems and aren't dangerous in a server environment therefore we can study files on a server without being in danger.

When the file is scanned and a virus is found, the system creates a report. The report contains the name of an infected file, the name of a torrent file that links to it, the URL of a server that tracked this file, the name of the virus detected, time and date when our system has performed a scan. All this information is sent to the tracker administration with a request to remove torrent file from the server as it contains harmful data.

Administrators of trackers can also add their sites to the system manually to find out if some hackers distribute their programs through the server.

Checktor.com seems to be a really nice service. Now people using bittorrent protocol to download something will less likely get a dangerous file and experience an attack or a crash.
