I wonder if the present day text books of Social Studies do still talk about the good things done by past kings and rulers. At least, in our childhood, year after year, textbooks carried forward the story of Asoka the Emperor – that he was a great ruler, planted trees along the roads, dug wells, tanks, constructed rest houses for the people on journey. It looked silly, trivial and childish to me to remember and write about it.
Years rolled by; standing at the present juncture, I now realize the value of my childhood education, the concern of our fore fathers towards ecology, their far sight and responsible attitude in discharging their obligations to posterity.
Rapid industrialization, population growth coupled with man’s avarice to achieve more in shortest possible time at the cost of nature – indiscriminate mining and burning of fossil fuels, like coal, gasoline or diesel, deforestation, etc. -- has resulted in ecological imbalance, which is growing at an alarming pace visualized never before!
Over the past 20 years, scientists have concluded that the increasing amount of carbon dioxide is the major contributor of rising global temperatures. In the last 15 years, the warmest 10 years of the century have been recorded. Over the past year, the Arctic ice cap is probably its smallest size in the last 100 years of record keeping. In recent years, the proportion of powerful hurricanes has doubled, from 1/6 to 1/3.
Rising Global Warming, increasing CO2 levels and the Green House effect has been a cause of world-wide concern, attention, and discussion.
Going green now is just not a social responsibility;
As corporate citizens, Indian industry verticals also have a humongous responsibility for protecting and preserving our environment today and for future generations by not only creating energy efficient products, but also by practicing good environmental stewardship. This requires a new paradigm of intelligent utilization of resources that dramatically reduce environmental impact. Job ‘a’ Fair is quick to recognize this paradigm shift in the space of recruitment and has put in place processes where software is the key to a comprehensive Green Recruitment Strategy for its stake holders.
