There are many areas across the board in Technologies that have been gleaned from the Star Trek Universe over the years (cell phones, cloaking technology, video game technology, replicators)
Space Tourism is the next logical step in this progression, and still very much in its infancy stages and will need to still take several more steps before becoming fully mature and helping mankind achieve its greatest walk, yet to come. Gene Roddenberry was a good man and a wise futurist, and he knew that for mankind to survive and have a future free of disease, poverty and war, it meant working together to accomplish that common goal, and that very theme is written all the way through the many stories of Star Trek.
Currently, there are many companies in this new sector of space tourism, and all are trying to get there first, most of whom have good management, good ideas, but most fall short of their goals due to lack of funding for those goals. It is almost impossible for each individual company to secure a huge pool of capital from traditional sources, as those traditional sources want something more tangible and immediate for their funding in such a new and untried sector such as space tourism or any type of business taking place in the vast vortex of space. Thus, the capital that is available is somewhat limited for each company, giving rise to the high failure rate for companies trying to compete in this new “space race”.
Does the answer reside once again with Star Trek? A consortium of companies pulling their resources together and building the infrastructure for a “space-based”
Utopia Planitia Group has recently been formed to bring together a consortium of companies, with the aim of combining diverse strengths, partnerships, and creativity. They will work on many diverse projects in the areas of Science, Technology, Aerospace, Space Tourism, Entertainment, and will include the Utopia Planitia Shipyards. They are actively seeking individuals and/or companies in any of these areas to join this consortium. You may email them directly at UPlanitia@aol.com.
