Dec. 16, 2008 - PRLog -- FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – It might seem that the easy answer during difficult economic times is to eliminate or dramatically reduce the “luxury expenses” in our lives — things that give us pleasure, like golf and travel.

But therein lies the paradox. When strenuous, financial challenges arise, experts tell us it is more important than ever to keep stress levels in our lives as low as possible. Let’s face it: We can’t change who we are and as any golf nut worth his salt will tell you, one of the fastest and best ways to cure what ails you is to hit the links. And it’s doubly nice if you can mix in a road trip with your buddies.

Lending their support this winter to help facilitate such an approach to the crisis, many of the Fayetteville area’s finest golf courses and best hotels are offering some of the most attractive, cut-rate specials on both golf and accommodations along I-95.

Indeed, who better to turn to during our country’s pressing budget battle than Fayetteville — America’s first name in defense? The historic and proud home of the 82nd Airborne is a city that knows what it means to be ready at a moment’s notice.

For cost-conscious golfers planning to play and travel, Fayetteville’s “Unlimited Golf Package” is available through February 28 and features as much golf as you can play at King's Grant Golf and Country Club —— along with overnight accommodations at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux, including breakfast, for $80 per person per night.

In addition, from January 5 through February 28, the “Dusk-to-Dawn Weekday Package” features three night’s accommodations at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux and two rounds of all-day golf at Bayonet at Puppy Creek and Cypress Lakes for $185 per person. This package includes a full hot buffet breakfast, as well as a complimentary drink and a game of pool in Wiley Grille and Bar per golfer. Based upon availability, groups of 12 or more will receive a complimentary hospitality parlor.

Also in January and February, the “Winter Weekday Warrior Package” features overnight accommodations at either the Baymount Suites or Red Roof Inn, and golf at either Bayonet at Puppy Creek or Cypress Lakes for $60 per person per night.

The Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has partnered with GolfSwitch to help plan golf missions to the Fayetteville area, with a custom golf reservation and package builder found on-line at GolfOnTheReady.com or by calling 800-577-3787. Assisting in the decision-making process, this cutting-edge Web site includes videos of the participating courses.

Davis Love III, Dan Maples, Ellis Maples, Stewart Gooden and Willard Byrd — some of golf’s top commanding officers — have left their legacy in Fayetteville with a variety of challenging and unique Fayetteville golf course designs that offer every golfer a chance to earn their stripes.

Bayonet Golf Club at Puppy Creek is a Willard Byrd design sculpted through the rolling hills surrounding Puppy Creek. With five sets of tees, this championship course has been created for golfers of all skill levels. Bayonet also offers the region’s largest and best conditioned practice area, including a 20-acre golf practice facility featuring 10 target greens and a short-game area.

As an original home to the Floyds (Raymond and Marlene) and located just off I-95 exit 41, Cypress Lakes challenges and delights the most avid golfers with championship-caliber greens and prime playing conditions nurtured over the past decade. Stretching from 5,800 to 7,000 yards, Cypress Lakes is an extremely fair course to play with no blind shots to the greens.

King’s Grant provides a unique blend of fun and challenging holes with many elevation changes and a strong emphasis on shot placement and accuracy. Voted the Readers’ Choice Award Winner as the best golf course in Cumberland County by the Fayetteville Observer, King’s Grant offers gently rolling bent grass greens and five sets of tees to provide maximum enjoyment for all golfers, including NCAA Division III power Methodist College. Two beautiful cypress lakes, frequent natural areas and well-placed bunkers will certainly keep the golfers attention as they tour around this scenic layout.
