GAINESVILLE, Fl.- (BUSINESS WIRE) — DEC. 15, 2008— Excursions, a half-hour TV show aired nationally to more than 60 million homes, will be filming at the Courtyard Marriott Cambridge when it heads to Beantown for its Best of Boston show.
Renovated then reopened in 2008, this 16-story brick, stainless steel and glass building overlooks the Charles River and fits perfectly in eclectic Cambridge, home to both Harvard and M.I.T.
The hotel’s visual centerpiece is a three-story staircase constructed of angular stainless steel, sculpted aluminum and tempered glass that rises from a cultured stone floor. The surrounding lobby is finished with weathered brick, polished cherry wood, contemporary local art, leather-bound books and lush foliage.
As welcoming as the Marriott’s entrance is, what Excursions’ producers appreciated most about the 203-room hotel is its fresh approach to travel. Although the Courtyard Marriott Cambridge is primarily a business hotel and has the conference rooms and amenities to prove it, the management does a fantastic job of keeping guests entertained.
This means themed events in the lobby such as Science Lab Martini Experiments with the resident martini scientist, hand-crafted sushi demonstrations, Maynard G. Krebs-inspired poetry readings, local wine and beer tastings and live jazz and blues.
It also means a wide array of creative travel packages that offer everything from a sampling of Samuel Adams beers with souvenir glasses to the Weird U.S. Package, in which a private guide reveals the stranger side of Boston.
Many travelers, of course, are drawn to the hotel because of its location “just outside the square”: walking distance to colleges, across the Charles River from Boston and a short ride to the airport. Excursions selected it because when you put all of these things together, it adds up to one of Boston’s best.
Excursions is a half-hour show dedicated to providing viewers with a fresh and unique perspective on travel. Each feature tells a story from the insider’s perspective, going behind the scenes to discover the most interesting tales and using the powerful medium of television to relay them.
