Qigong (pronounced chee-gung) is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy (qi). It is said that Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil state of mind.
With the help of Laraine Crampton, L.Ac., Department Chair of the Qigong Cultivation Program, a systematic program of clinical applications of Qigong is being implemented in the Yo San Clinic. Interns and supervisors will begin to use techniques learned in the Qigong courses to improve their patient’s health. The techniques of Qigong will greatly enhance the results existing treatments.
The Qi Cultivation Program (QCP) is 180 hours and is an essential part of the Taoist education at Yo San. The classes offer a combination of breathing, movement and meditation practices. These techniques can treat a wide variety of disorders and can address patient health problems anytime and almost anywhere.
Yo San University also offers a Qi Cultivation Program for its community members. The YSU Community Qi Program hosts a range of Qi development classes such as tai chi, qigong, and dao-in yoga, as well as academic classes such as Intro to Traditional Chinese Medicine and Exploring the I Ching. The next 6-week session of community classes begins late January, 2009.
