Thomas Zaleske A.S. dental technician and owner of Matrix Dental Laboratory has announced the formation of a new start-up company, Effect Dental Products LLC and its first product offering, Scanocryl.
Scanocryl is a radiopaque self curing dental acrylic developed to be used in the fabrication of dual and single gradient scanning appliances. These appliances are intraorally placed and used in conjunction with MRI scanning to pre-determine ideal placement for dental implants.
Laboratories who make these appliances must resort to hand mixing barium into their acrylics to obtain radiopacity needed for scanography. Drawbacks of hand mixing are a non-homogenous clumping mix which promotes scatter and lack of definition in the appliance borders, which risks costly inacuracies and possible re-imaging costs. In the laboratory loss of time in measuring, mixing, and cleaning up after the manual mixing of barium and acrylic powder process makes the fabrication of these appliances a distasteful chore. This is eliminated by using Scanocryl a pre-mixed acrylic and barium. In order to provide further value, 2 barium gradient ratios (30% and 10%) are offered and identified by color coding in order to provide quick visual identification for less chance of confusing which ratio being used.
Scanocryl comes in 500gr bottles with color coded caps for easy drawer or cabinet identification.
For those laboratories just starting to get into marketing scanning appliances to their accounts Effect Dental Products also offers a starter kit which includes (1) 500gr. bottle, and enough ancillary materials to make (5) appliances. An instructional DVD on how to make 2 of the more popular types of guides is also included.
