New Study-Abroad Program Gives Student Athletes a Major Competitive Advantage

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  – High school and college students will emerge from their academic pursuits to find a world vastly different from the one their parents inhabited. Job competition is fierce today, and motivated students are pursuing targeted academic and extracurricular activities that will enhance their appeal to future employers. In this global economy, exposure to foreign language and culture is critical.

"Empowering our children to broaden their perspective has never been more important," says Joe Coito, president and co-founder of Travel Sport Camp, which offers international boarding school programs designed for student athletes. "Having an exceptional grade point average is no longer enough to distinguish students from the competition. With the increasing trend toward globalization, today's youth require training to understand and communicate clearly with other cultures. Travel Sport Camp was created to foster intercultural competence in a safe, structured atmosphere that emphasizes top-notch sports training and education.”

Travel Sport Camp was created as a natural extension of EduKick, a leader in international language immersion soccer camps. Through Travel Sport Camp, students now have the opportunity to study abroad through carefully designed yearlong programs combining language immersion with daily training in basketball, tennis, cycling, volleyball, handball, even table tennis. Shorter summer camp sessions include surfing, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, high ropes courses, rappelling and more. Supervised social activities and excursions are designed to further enhance the cultural experience.  Currently, students can choose from a variety of programs in Mexico, Italy, England, Spain and France.

"Unlike other study abroad programs, our sports training component provides a consistent and structured curriculum for students and allows our staff to interact with them on a regular basis,” Coito says. “In turn, the specialized sports training offers students a comfortable, familiar environment in their otherwise new surroundings.”

Students with Travel Sport Camp can look forward to the same quality language immersion opportunities that EduKick players receive. Travel Sport Camp also uses the same established directors and city venues as EduKick sports boarding schools.

Travel Sport Camp yearlong international sports boarding school programs start in September 2009 and run through June 2010. For more information or to register, please visit www.travelsportcamp.com.
