Local Gymnast Kayla Sukert to Represent USA at Maccabiah Games in Israel

COSTA MESA, Calif.— Kayla Sukert, a Team OC level 10 gymnast, participated in the USA Selection Trials for the 2009 Maccabiah Games on December 7 in Norman Oklahoma at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy.

She participated in all four events; Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. After four rotations of competition, Sukert won a position on the USA Junior Woman’s Team to represent the United States at the July 2009 Maccabiah Games in Israel. Sukert is one of only six Jewish girls in the country who is on the team.

At the Trials she placed first on the balance beam making her the USA Junior Jewish Women’s Balance Beam Champion. At the games Sukert and Team USA will compete against 60 other countries. There will be approximately 9,000 all Jewish athletes competing from around the world.

Thirteen-year-old Sukert is currently enrolled at Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School in Orange County and trains at TEAM OC Gymnastics in Costa Mesa. She has been California State Balance Beam Champion in the past and is currently a competing level 10 gymnast in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program.
