Budget accommodations could help all those Olympic spectators who found out earlier this month they won tickets to over-reserved events, but may be worried about finding a place to stay.
According the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC), about 120 of 170 Olympic events were over-subscribed during the first phase of the Official Ticket Reservation Process. The opening and closing ceremonies, figure skating, speed skating and men’s hockey are the events have proved to be the most popular Winter Olympic events. VANOC received $345 million in ticket requests during the first phase ticket request period. They expect to make $232 million in fulfilled ticket requests. Fans are expected to be notified what tickets they’ve received by December 10.
While finding tickets to the Olympics is proving to be a challenge, hotel rooms may be even harder to come by. VANOC has reserved more than 80% of Vancouver hotels during the Olympic period, mostly for Olympic sponsors, partners, National Olympic Committees and federations.

For those Olympic enthusiasts who didn’t receive their first-round ticket pick, another phase of ticket sales will take place December 12 to December 22. The remaining tickets will go on sale to the public in early 2009. VANOC urges ticket applicants to buy Winter Olympic tickets from official Olympic ticket brokers, such as CoSport. Numerous Olympic fans got burned in Beijing when they bought Summer Games tickets from unauthorized dealers. In the end they paid thousands of dollars and did not receive the tickets they reserved. “Ticketing at the Olympics is always tricky,” explained Lanari. “The best thing Olympic fans can do is to try to order their tickets through the proper channels: the Vancouver 2010 website or through www.cosport.com.”
