Creative Direction
In 2006 Louise Trotter joined Jigsaw as Creative Director and has since overseen a new creative shift for a brand, which has become an institution of the British High Street. After working as the creative force behind Whistles, Louise moved to the US where she went on become Vice President of Gap Womenswear and worked on highly successful collections for Calvin Klein and latterly Tommy Hilfiger, before returning to the UK to take up the reins at the creative helm of Jigsaw. Louise has since created collections that have proved a huge success with Jigsaw’s loyal following, new customers and opinion formers in the fashion press alike.
Autumn/Winter 08 Collection at Jigsaw
The mood of the A/W 08 fashion clothes collection was inspired by Hitchcock’s film The Birds with an iconic nod to Tippi Hedren. The collection plays with a strong focus on eclectic styling and an emphasis on a lean, structured silhouette. Jigsaw’s signature focus on British eccentric dressing is highlighted in a collection inspired by mixing everyday favourites with heirlooms and hand-me-downs, displaying a juxtaposition of shapes and textures with faded mid-tones accented with bright rouge, rhubarb pink and brilliant emerald. A strong play on the return of pink sits on a base of warmer neutrals inspired by nature, from camel through to bark, forest green, marine and anthracite.
Fabrics for Autumn/Winter 08 are luxurious and rich in textured finishes - a vintage quality is lent with cloques, crepes and damasks taking centre stage. Textures and prints are also influenced by the outdoors with brushed fabrics, florals, jacquards, washed velvets, lace, feathers, animal hair prints and boucle finishes in unexpected mixes.
The Jigsaw Story
Founded by John Robinson in 1972, Jigsaw has since expanded from just 1 store in Hampstead, to having 47 stores across the UK and an additional children’s wear line, Jigsaw Junior. Still privately owned by John and his wife Belle, in 2004 Jigsaw ventured into the USA and opened its first American store in Los Angeles - Jigsaw USA now has 9 stores across the United States.
Jigsaw ensure that their many fashion clothes stores remain fresh and visually exciting by delivering new stock to branches weekly, meaning the ranges in-store refresh constantly. Jigsaw’s in-house design team in Kew, West London now produce two principal ranges a year which sub-divide into Autumn, Winter, Christmas, Spring, High Summer and late Summer.
Jigsaw is a British brand with a strong identity inspired by country living, quirkiness, irreverence and humour. A strong brand heritage, considerate creative direction by Louise Trotter and day to day input from the founders, Belle and John Robinson, ensure that as the company grows and evolves, both the core and original Jigsaw customers – many present from the first store-opening in 1972 - are catered for just as much as the new wave of customers pouring through the doors.

As a company, Jigsaw continues to flourish as a brand which knows exactly what its customers want and need from their clothes. With an exciting growing presence overseas and high acclaim in the UK fashion climate, Jigsaw still remains a brand which is as quintessentially British as the day the first store opened.
