Dec. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- Evergreen, CO --The Swinden Group’s Weather Risk Management service is advising clients in the Midwest of a developing winter storm that may impact travel and businesses in the region.  A low pressure system will move out of the southwest and track northeast Monday bringing with it moderate to heavy snow from Nebraska up through the Great Lakes Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Preliminary snowfall amounts of up to 8 inches is possible combined with northerly winds of 20 to 30 mph may cause blowing snow.  Visibilities in some areas of near zero could be possible creating hazardous winter driving conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Watches from eastern Nebraska up to Lower Michigan for Monday night into Tuesday.  Expect many of these watches to be upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings as the storm progresses.

The main threat from this winter storm will be hazardous and sometimes dangerous driving conditions along with air travel delays beginning Monday and into Tuesday morning.

Second System Effecting Colorado

A second system moving out of the Great Basin will bring snow to the eastern Rockies and the plains of Colorado Monday night and into Tuesday.  This quick system will bring 6 to 12 inches of snow for the southern Front Range Foothills and Palmer Divide.  Interstate 25 will be impacted from south of the Denver Metro to the New Mexico border.  Winter Storm Watches have been issued by the National Weather Service for the Front Range foothills and the plains south of Denver metro to include Colorado Springs.  These watches will be upgraded / downgraded as the storm system approaches.

As with the storm system in the Midwest, the main threat with this system will be hazardous winter driving conditions and travel delays.

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for a hazardous winter weather event in and close to the watch area. Significant snow accumulations may occur that could impact travel. Stay tuned to the national weather service or your local news media for the latest updates and possible warning concerning this potential winter storm.
