At the top of this list is a tyre pressure monitoring system – referred to as autox.in. The mHawk has a display on the instrument cluster, inside the tachometer, that tells you the exact tire pressure in each of the car’s tyres, including the spare. It also tells you tyre temperature, and warns you if you have a leak or puncture – all of which is extremely useful information. Most people pay very little attention to tyre pressure, which is a mistake since it’s critical to safety and, on a lesser note, mileage. In fact, the best investment you can make is in an inexpensive manual tyre pressure gauge, which is probably just as accurate as the high-tech tyre-tronics system. Tyre-tronics, in itself, is largely accurate but can sometimes be off by up to 1psi. Nevertheless, a tyre pressure monitoring system such as this should be available on all cars.
The autox.in writes a next feature on the list of gizmos car is a parking sensor that has readout on the rear view mirror – referred to as ‘intellipark.’
The mHwak also features automatic lights and wipers. And unlike intellipark, which you can’t turn off, both these functions have buttons to activate and deactivate them on either side of the center console. The auto lights turn themselves on in the dark, and also if you go through a tunnel. They do, however, also come on at twilight or a little before you really need them, as a result of which many owners will probably choose to leave this function turned off. The auto wipers also, as the name suggest, come on automatically when it rains. Both features are typically found on higher end cars and can be quite useful depending on the preference of the driver.
The two-tone steering has buttons on either side that respectively control audio functions and cruise control. The audio buttons can be quite practical, allowing the driver to adjust volume and tune radio stations without taking his or her hands off the wheel. The cruise control is also straightforward and easy to use. The buttons let you select and alter cruising speed, and can actually be quite helpful on the highway. The only problem, of course, is that we have very few highways that allow a driver to set a cruising speed and make uninterrupted progress.
There are a few glaring omissions however – while the mHawk has ABS, it doesn’t have airbags, even as an option. An even bigger omission is the lack of electronically controlled side view mirrors. The mHawk also doesn’t have the option of four-wheel drive, which means it can’t be used as a true off-roader.
