EVERGREEN, Co — The Swinden Group’s Weather Risk Management service is advising clients in Sri Lanka and southern India region to prepare for the arrival of Tropical Cyclone 07B. The storm is expected to bring tropical storm force winds to Sri Lanka when the storm makes landfall Sunday and heavy rains to the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry possibly causing widespread flooding.
Currently located approximately 260 nm southeast of Colombo, Sri Lanka, the center of the storm is expected to make landfall over Sri Lanka in less than 18 hours. Once over land, the storm is expected to weaken.
The major threat for the region of Sri Lanka and southern India will be the possibility of widespread flooding.
In late November, Tropical Cyclone Nisha passed over the region causing substantial damage to Sri Lanka and southern India. Interests in the region should be prepared for additional flooding caused by this present storm along with disruptions and / or delays to travel and utilities in the region.
