ARISE Foundation conducts life management skills training with the Florida Dept. of Juvenile Justice

With help from a grant provided by the Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention, ARISE will bring vital life skills training to Florida's Juvenile Justice staff, turning them into mentors & coaches for the at-risk youth under their care.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Dec 03, 2008 – ARISE Foundation will be conducting its remarkable two-day Life Management Skills Instructor Certification Training in Tampa, FL on December 8th and 9th. The training will transform the FDJJ staff into mentors, coaches and facilitators-giving them the tools and confidence they need to teach at-risk youth under their care vital life skills like anger management.

The ARISE Life Management Skills training fully equips participants with the knowledge needed to conduct guided group discussions and life skills activities with the troubled youth in their care. The goal of the ARISE Program is to provide at-risk youth receiving the program with the tools they need to survive, succeed and become productive members of society.

ARISE takes pride in continuously updating all training material and curricula to meet the needs of the populations they work with. Consequently, they have expanded their original one-day Life Management Skills Training into two days.  The additional day allows them to cover new material that provides staff at any level with the ability and assurance to teach, guide and motivate youth using any of the evidence-based ARISE Life Skills Curricula.

The ARISE Life Management Skills curricula and training is an evidence-based program that has been evaluated every year since 1997. The University of Miami’s Department of Sociology was the first to put the ARISE Program through a five-year evaluation. The evidence-based evaluation data concluded that 75% of the youth that received the ARISE Life-Skills Program showed significant improvement in knowledge of issues included in the programs’ content: violence reduction, goal setting, anger management, drugs and alcohol avoidance and other life-management skills (for the complete reports visit ariselife-skills.org. )

ARISE Foundation has been working with organizations serving at-risk youth in Florida, Washington D.C. and across the country since 1986.  In September, ARISE  received a grant through the United States Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, allowing the organization to expand training at juvenile justice facilities across the state of Florida.

For over 20 years, ARISE has written and published life management skills curricula and staff training programs. Designed originally to reach high-risk, incarcerated youth in detention centers and secure facilities, ARISE is also utilized as a powerful prevention tool for teenagers and young adults.  ARISE is particularly appropriate for youth with special requirements, limited reading and/or writing ability and Attention Deficit Disorders. The structured, easily understood programs use group dynamics and active participation to stave off boredom and prevent frustration. ARISE curricula has been successfully used for over 20 years in the Miami-Dade Florida School System and in over 100 Washington DC schools, organizations and secure facilities.

Since its inception over two decades ago, ARISE has trained and certified over 5,000 instructors who have gone on to teach over 4,000,000 documented hours of ARISE life skills lessons in Florida alone. ARISE is also being used in Canada, Jamaica, England, Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, New Zealand, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Central Asia and the Kingdom of Bahrain. The ARISE curricula is presently being translated into Kazakh and Russian for use with orphans.
