The XOOPS Project, world’s leading Open Source CMS (Content Management System), has released recently the newest version of its award winning software – XOOPS 2.3.1.
In the first seven weeks this new release has been already downloaded more than 17,000 times, confirming the strong position of XOOPS in the CMS market.
XOOPS 2.3 is a major improvement for the XOOPS platform, as it merges two separate branches of XOOPS in preparation for its next major release – XOOPS 3.0. The most important features of the 2.3.1 release is the addition of Extended Profile and Private Messages modules, and standardizing on one Extended DHTML editor as the default across all XOOPS modules. The administrators will also enjoy the addition of a new Admin GUI.
XOOPS has been enjoying for years a very loyal following, thanks to its innovative nature and user friendliness, and receiving numerous awards from users and press. The main features are full modularization where modules can be installed/uninstalled/

System requirements
XOOPS is written 100% in PHP and requires a Web server, PHP and MySQL database:
Any PHP version >= 4.3 (PHP 4.2.x may work but is not officially supported, PHP 5.0+ is strongly recommended)
MySQL server 3.23+ (MySQL 5.0+ is strongly recommended)
Web server: Any server supporting the required PHP version (Apache highly recommended)
