Firebelly Foundation Redefines Holiday Giving While Helping Its Neighbors

Dec. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- The Firebelly Foundation, based in Chicago's Humboldt Park community, has created an online storefront (ReasonToGive.com) featuring video of community members sharing their personal stories and immediate basic needs.

Reason To Give provides a shopping/giving experience that's simple, quick, and personal. "Connecting people who give a damn with people who need a hand" the new nonprofit provides an easy, innovative way to help the local community.

Besides raising awareness and financial support for the Humboldt Park community, Reason To Give offers a unique alternative to the traditional holiday gift exchange. When shoppers donate in someone else's name, the organization sends that person a free gift. Every purchase comes with a personalized certificate, plus a free organic cotton t-shirt for donations over $20, and a t-shirt and recycled cotton tote bag for donations of $100 or more.

"Although Reason To Give is active in the community all year round," says Dawn Hancock, Executive Director at Firebelly Foundation, "our immediate goal is to raise $250 for each participating family by December 19th towards the purchase of gift cards at our local grocers and retailers. This will help our neighbors enjoy the holidays by giving them the means to purchase their own holiday dinner and presents for their children."

Reason To Give also provides shoppers the opportunity to do twice the good with one click. Partnering with socially responsible retailers, all items on ReasonToGive.com are purchased from companies who are Chicago- or US-based, or who are Fair Trade certified. The organization also favors eco-friendly companies and those that contribute profits to charity.
