Cicero women are paying more for abortions.
Women in Cicero, IL will pay anywhere from $300 to $500 for an abortion, and even $1,000 or more, depending on how far along she is in her pregnancy.
The cost, which has been slowly increasing over the years, can cover the abortion, birth control pills, anesthetic and antibiotics. Not included in these figures is the cost of follow-up treatments for unexpected problems caused by the procedure, post-abortion counseling or other related problems.
Whatever the cost, the rate of abortion in Illinois in 2005 dropped 19% since the year 2000, and mostly likely in Cicero as well. The Illinois figures are from the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood. These figures mean that in 2005, about 325 women in Cicero obtained abortions.
When states’ anti-abortion laws were struck down in 1973 by the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, the number of abortion procedures nationally at first rose steadily, reached a peak in 1990, but then have been dropping ever since, according to Guttmacher.
The decrease may be due to women obtaining better information about the dangers of abortion, and decisions on the part of a growing number of women to choose lifestyles that make abortion unnecessary.
