Living Hour Launches Lord’s Prayer Website

The Living Hour has announced the launch of its website LivingHour.org: a site dedicated to reclaiming The Lord’s Prayer for daily life, and promoting the ideals of progressive Christianity. The new website features excerpts from the soon to be published Living Hour book, and chapters from The New Century Gospels (NCG)--a new revision of the canonical Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

“We’ve chosen The Lord’s Prayer as the focal point of our organization and website, because we see the prayer as the Rosetta stone of the gospel of Christ,” says Pastor David, the founder of LivingHour.org, and an affiliate minister of the Progressive Christian Alliance. The Gospel books that accompany The Living Hour are described as a blend of old and new.

The NCG uses the Twentieth Century New Testament as the main source material for its edition. Subsequent edits were then made after careful consideration of The King James Bible and forms of modern English usage. The resulting text is expected to appeal to both new readers of the Gospels, as well as Christians well versed in the scripture. “The New Century Gospels take into account that many lines from the King James Bible have become part of our public consciousness,” says Pastor David. “But at the same time, the NCG loses some of the antiquated forms of language that often are an obstacle to today's readers.”

The LivingHour.org website welcomes Progressive Christians, Unitarian Christians, Quakers, Catholics, and people of all denominations and faiths. This all-inclusiveness reflects one of the major tenets of progressive Christianity: that is, inviting everyone to share in worship, fellowship, and self-discovery without requiring that they become “Christians” or follow a particular belief system.
