Un-wrap the magic this holiday season by giving the children’s books "A New Year’s Family" and "Jake the Cow Horse" by author Cookie Grimes as a gift to someone you love!
The magic is in the book! No matter what the age, with winter around the corner and the
Holiday season approaching, what better time to curl up with a good book, a hot cup of cocoa and your loved ones to read to? It’s where the magic and the memories begin!
Some of you can turn back to the time when you were a kid and recall all the magic you experienced in books. All the faraway lands you traveled to, and new ideas you discovered. But most of all the memories of that warm cuddly atmosphere and the sound of the voice. With this simple pleasure it brought warmth to your heart and a smile to your face.
Cookie remembers, “I can recall that feeling and it’s a good one; a grandson on one side of me and another one on the other side! I’ll never forget the look on their faces as I read the book "A New Year’s Family". ‘Is it really a true story, Grandma?’ my grandson asked! I’d like to continue that tradition with my books about true animal stories, with the hope that we all can encourage our children---early in their lives---to enjoy reading. It’s a great habit to get into: picking up a book and just thumbing through it; there might be something in there that’s really magical!”
Cookie Grimes is the author, illustrator and narrator of the children’s books "A New Year’s Family" and "Jake the Cow Horse", which will be officially released on December 2, 2008.
Like "A New Year's Family", "Jake the Cow Horse" can be purchased at all major book stores and online websites, or you can buy a personalized copy of either book from her website today. Both books include a free download of the audio version of the book.
"A New Year’s Family" is a story about two ducks named Sarah and Christopher, who become good friends. Christopher, who looks very different from the other ducks around the pond, falls in love with Sarah Duck. All the animals and birds and insects around the pond finally realize that being different has little to do with who you are in the inside!
This is what one of the characters has to say in the book: “I’ll never judge a person by what he looks like on the outside because if you look inside the person, you might find a heart of gold,” Lucy offered.
A review from C. Ward, a poet from Darby, Montana states: “Sarah and Christopher duck are a lot like all of us, hoping to find love and acceptance—eager to become part of a loving family. They teach us all that there is much we can do without; that all we really need resides within. Thanks, Cookie, for reminding us that love is about what we feel, rather than what we see.”
Horses and Children . . . there seems to be a spiritual connection there! In "Jake the Cow Horse", Cookie shares a heartwarming and true story of a golden palomino roping horse---a champion in his youth---who had always worked for the humans, but never really felt love. He was a loner, even when he was with other horses. If he wasn’t working, he would always be standing out in the field, keeping to himself.
That is until he was taken up to Montana from Oklahoma and finally meets a young ranch girl named Cody, who wants a friend she can love and tenderly care for. Extraordinary changes can happen when an animal experiences love from a human: Jake the Cow Horse and Cody find exuberant happiness in the enchanting chemistry that God seems to bless on young girls and horses.
One of the early reviews of the book by P. Cain describes the different aspects of the story well: "Jake the Cow Horse is a wonderful reminder to all of us of the transformation power of love. Cookie Grimes has captured the innocent faith of a child that kindness and love are what makes friendship come alive no matter what size, shape or species we are. I finished this story with the renewed hope that the world will be a better place because of people like Cody and her family."
