Hillsides Education Center students are dazzled by the Bubble Man

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Nov 20, 2008 – (PASADENA, CA)--Students from the local Pasadena special education nonpublic school, Hillsides Education Center, were dazzled and entertained by the Amazing Bubble Man. This event is part of a monthly series of educational and entertaining performances organized by the Las Candelas Program for the students at the special education school, serving students in Los Angeles County.
Louis Pearl, The Amazing Bubble Man, has been bubbling professionally since 1980, when he started Tangent Toy Company. He started performing in 1983 with a show at the Exploratorium in San Francisco and has written two books about bubbles, made a video called “Lights, Camera, Bubbles,” and has so far produced 21 fantastic bubble inventions.
The Bubble Man enthralled the students at Hillsides Education Center by creating bubbles of all shapes and sizes from different tools and everyday objects. Many of the kids joined in the fun by blowing and popping bubbles, catching bubbles and even stepping into bubbles.
“The kids and staff agreed that it was one of the best assemblies they have seen!” said Jay Bechtol, director of Hillsides Education Center, adding that, “many of the high school kids were making fun of the idea of going to see a ‘bubble man’, but they too walked out of the auditorium completely awed and couldn’t stop talking about it the following day.”
Students also learned the science involved in bubbles. Pearl taught the kids about surface tension, minimum surface areas, bubble color and chemistry, how bubbles are possible, how they pop and why soap and water make bubbles and cleans things. Pearl also explained to the kids how to start a small company and choose a career doing something you love.
Founded by Pat Wall and Dorothy Uhlig in April 1953, Las Candelas located in Glendale promotes a better understanding of mental health in surrounding communities.  The volunteer organization spearheaded a group of women to bring the light of hope to the forgotten children of Camarillo State Hospital.  After the hospital facility closed, Las Candelas visited with several children’s charities and selected Hillsides, including its special education school, and other charities to help children gain better emotional and mental health.
