Las Vegas, NV— Parmenides Publishing is pleased to announce the release of their new academic philosophy title, A Life Worthy of the Gods: The Materialist Psychology of Epicurus. This book probes the depths of Epicurean psychology, elucidating and enlightening readers to the fundamental insight at the core of Epicurus’ teachings—there is nothing to fear in death.
Epicurus and his Roman disciple Lucretius held that the primary cause of human unhappiness was an irrational fear of death and that a clear understanding of the nature of the world would help to eliminate this fear; for if one recognizes that the universe and everything in it is made up of atoms and empty space, he will see that the soul cannot possibly survive the extinction of the body—and no harm can occur to him after death. This liberating insight is central to Epicurean therapy and, in his book, David Konstan seeks to show both how man’s irrational fears arose as well as how understanding and embracing a materialist Epicurean worldview could provide a therapy that would allow human beings to enjoy life to the fullest degree.
Already the recipient of glowing reviews and endorsements, A Life Worthy of the Gods was chosen as the National Best Books 2008 Award-winner in the category of Philosophy.
