"The US auto industry has failed to adapt to customer needs and lacks innovation in applying new financing Models to create new markets for their products " Hope states.
The Hope on AFRICA program requires 8,800 flat bed trucks to build the 2,166 Children's Villages in Africa. Ambassador Hope wrote to Dr Zetsche and he organized a team of 2 Executives from Chrysler and 1 Executive from Bukkehave their global distributor.
By October 2007, the truck specifications and quotation were ready. It would equate to a $ 230 million contract and keep workers jobs and plants open.
The 3 Executives never visited or even asked what was required to complete the contract. Hope says "I've negotiated multimillion dollar contracts before however, the apathy and lack of interest in winning was astounding."
Bruce Ohms, John Bonadonna and Morten Frederiksen dropped the ball and by now the Chrysler employees could be usefully employed making real trucks that will build real Childrens Villages that will give a sustainable future to 13 million orphans and their caregivers.
Ambassador Hope has written to Speaker Pelosi and asked the US Government to issue a guarantee instead of aid so that the financiers will release the funds and the Chrysler workers can quickly ramp up production of the 8,800 trucks.
Hope said " it's a no brainer......it much more beneficial for the US Government to provide the guarantee, the private sector to provide the finance, the workers to keep their jobs and make trucks that will ensure that a whole generation of orphans lives are saved and sustained."
Detroit and other legacy industries must be more imaginative, adaptable, and creative. They must be open to cooperate and collaborate on developing new opportunities not remain rigid and stuck in past models.
