Release of Ardour 2.7 : Open-Source DAW for Mac OS X

Nov. 18, 2008 - PRLog -- Digital recording, mixing with professional plugins, fast, intuitive editing, audio analysis of percussive material plus simple time- and pitch correction … and all of this for free? Enter the SAE version of Ardour for OS X!

In April 2007, SAE Institute agreed to become a corporate sponsor for the Ardour project. Focus of the collaboration between Paul Davis, creator and developer of Ardour, and Armand Klenk, Head Instructor Audio at SAE Munich, was the development of an OS X version of the Linux-based software. A special student version, created in a parallel effort, will now make the open-source digital audio workstation even more accessible to beginners.

Ardour has become a fixture in many European universities and other educational institutions and is routinely employed in experimental research projects.

The SAE version of Ardour for OS X will be available for download at www.sae.edu/ardour as of 12 p.m CET on November 17, 2008.

The SAE Concept
SAE’s focus is on innovative teaching methods and practical training using leading-edge technology, all of it offered for a wide range of professional programs combining in-depth theory with hands-on practice. While students elsewhere have to settle for low-paying internships, students at SAE get to work on exciting projects from the get-go. SAE’s curriculum is different from those used by other training providers: it is consistently updated to meet the needs of the media industry. Students spend a minimum of 15 to 20 hours per week in the classroom, on workstations, or in our studios. Theory is immediately put into practice, a sure-fire way to consolidate knowledge. To ensure that students keep their competitive edge in the fast-moving media industry, SAE’s diploma programs can be completed within 1 to 2 years. Bachelor of Arts programs can subsequently be completed within 1 year, the work-based Master of Arts program alongside normal employment within 2 to 3 years thereafter. Bachelor and Master programs are offered in collaboration with Middlesex University, London, UK.

Ardour is a native multitrack recording, editing, and mixing software. It includes a powerful mixer, automation as well as flexible routing and hardware independency through the underlying JACK audio system. Ardour offers various synchronisation options, varispeed playback, flexible editing options, and many more features usually found in commercial products.
