Campus Town Prepares for University of Florida Gators Run to National Championship Game
Palm Beach Gardens, FL – Nov 18, 2008 – Even with all of the recent reports of a downturn in retail sales nationwide, Campus Town is gearing up for even better sales than anticipated. Campus Town has not seen a slowdown in sales at its store that sells collegiate logoed apparel and merchandise. Fans and alumni have flocked to Campus Town since its opening eight weeks ago. With no slowdown in sight, owner Lee Pagan is preparing for both huge holiday sales and also an increase in sales of Florida Gators merchandise as that school is on track to play in the National Bowl Championship game January 8, 2009 in Miami at Dolphin Stadium.
“We have customers not only buying for others but loading up on things for themselves. Just yesterday we had a gentleman come in and purchase three Florida Gators’ Nike polos for himself. I have noticed more cash and debit card sales in the last four weeks of business compared to the first four weeks we were open.”
With consumers cutting back due to the economy, many retailers are seeing huge dips in sales. The college football/basketball fan is different though. They have an allegiance to a team and buy these items to identify themselves with a larger network of like minded people. With the option of staying warm this winter most buyers are looking at buying one all purpose item…so why not a sweatshirt or jacket with your favorite team.
As for who Pagan thinks will be in the National Championship game, “I would have liked to see Penn State win out and play Florida. It looks like Texas Tech or Oklahoma will play Florida it these teams can win their last two-three games. Penn State fans would flock to South Florida to get away from the cold weather and see Joe Pa go for a National Championship win…and spend lots of money. But whoever plays, Florida is my favorite from both a personal and business view.”
