The Shaw Gallery would like to take the opportunity of this very popular annual show to offer our customers the best in Irish Art in the run up to the festive season. With this in mind we have, over the last few months, sourced works by some of the best and most investable artists working in Ireland today, including Robert Ballagh, Martin Finnin and John Kingerlee. Other notable inclusions are Brian Smyth, Finola Cooney, Bill Griffin and sculptor Patrick Barry.
According to Gallery Director, Stephen Vaughan, suitability for investment is now more important than ever when it comes to buying art: "In todays economic climate art offers a wonderful alternative to property, stocks and shares. While other forms of investment are experiencing a great amount of turbulence at the moment, works of art by leading irsh artists such as John Kingerlee continue to fetch high prices and indeed break records and you have the added benefit of owning and enjoying a beautiful piece of art as your investment matures".
An exhibition of paintings by John Kingerlee (current world record auction price $156,000), is currently on a 12-stop tour of the US and this first-time collaboration with such a prominient name in Irish Art circles is a major milestone in the development of the Shaw Gallery, which has gone from strength to strength since it's inception just over two short years ago.
Regular Shaw Gallery exhibitors submitting work for the annual Christmas show include Bill Griffin, currently preparing for a major retrospective of his work in January 2009; Rache Burke, recently selected for inclusion in the annual RHA exhibition; Anthony Ruby, currently working on an MA in Fine Art in London and Con Cremin, one of the Shaw Gallery's biggest sellers over the last year.
As well as Kingerlee, newcomers to the Shaw Gallery include West-Cork based artists Finola Cooney and Jenny Richardson; Patrick Barry, recently awarded the Douglas Hyde Medal, as well as joint first prize for sculpture at this year's Oireachtas exhibition; the highly collectable artist, Brian Smyth, exhibiting succesfully in Cork, Dublin and London since graduating from the Crawford College of Art in 1994; Print-makers Jonny Bugler and Aisling Dolan, and ceramicist Rob Lee.
