WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — It was about a year ago when Kevin Long, owner of Piedmont Disposal, decided to get into the grease business.
The downturn in the housing market meant Long’s construction waste disposal business was not growing, so he began exploring innovative ways to expand.. “We decided to go into grease trap service,” Long says. “I have to think there will always be plenty of grease to go around.”
Restaurants and other places that cook large amounts of food have a grease trap in their plumbing system, which keeps the grease sloughed off during dishwashing from traveling to the city sewer system. Forsyth County grease traps have to be pumped out once a month with a vacuum truck. The grease is then taken to a processing facility where it is “de-watered.”
Piedmont Disposal is an approved N.C. septage management firm and offers grease trap removal service to restaurants, day cares, hospitals, theatres, vineyards, schools and more.
“This was a logical way to branch out,” Long says. “We offered such great service around our waste disposal that we had many requests from customers to start collecting grease — and we were happy to oblige.”
The grease trap removal business has grown quickly in Winston-Salem, so Piedmont Disposal is expanding into the Guilford County market. “We just signed up four new restaurants last month,” Long says, “and we are ready to offer our great service to a customer base beyond the Forsyth County borders.”
Piedmont Disposal has all the state and local permits needed to handle non-toxic liquid waste. In addition, the company will file the necessary documentation for businesses to meet state and local regulations.
“We can now truly say we are a one stop shop for all your waste disposal needs,” Long says.
