Borrowing Alex Tew's million pixel concept, www.wisheschildren.com was recently launched on 7 Nov 08. The site offers mainly three features distinct from the original concept:
• Photo images of children to be displayed instead of companies’ logos
• Parents’ wishes as “hover-over”
• 1250 X 800 pixel-space dimension
Through this website, Mel Chee, 31, a freelance educator, aims to gather 10,000 parents’ wishes for their children and the children’s photos for sharing worldwide. In addition, “Each site visitor is invited to send a general thought of goodwill for the children seen...a wish that these children will be on the right path, protected, and become individuals who will make a positive difference in the societies and communities that they come from” according to Chee.
Despite being totally unfamiliar with web designing gadgets, and softwares, Chee got started and completed designing her very first website 52 hours later fuelled by her passion about the idea she had in mind. The site was launched two days later on 7 Nov 08.
The site has attracted visitors from USA, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and even Israel besides her home country, Singapore.
Site visitors can hover their cursor over each photo image to view the parent’s wish. Preparations for the Photo Gallery are underway.
To have a wish and a child’s photo posted online, the rates start at a minimum of US$10 for a 50 x 50 pixel space. Details and instructions on how to participate can be found on http://www.wisheschildren.com/
