Los Angeles – CU Business Networking, the largest online business networking group for graduates of the University of Colorado, is making its resources available to the family of Jaclyn Perea; the fourteen year old daughter two CU graduates. Jaclyn has been diagnosed with Juvenile Nephronophthisis Type 1; a genetic disorder that destroys the kidneys of young adults. She is in need of a kidney transplant.
The family has been able to secure a kidney donor but they need to raise $50,000 to cover uninsured costs associated with the operation. So far, they have managed to raise $11,000 through some charitable events organized by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at CU and from the activities of Jaclyn’s sister who is also a CU cheerleader. In addition to this, the Alpha Phi sorority at CU is also planning to help through its philanthropy program.
CU Business Networking has begun the process of notifying its members about Jaclyn’s condition and asking them to make any donations that they can afford. The group will also make its message boards and forums available to the family to communicate with group members. “I realize that these are economically tough times and that people don’t have a lot of disposable income,” said Jim Malmberg, founder of the network. “But that’s the very reason that Jaclyn’s family needs help now more than ever. No donation is too small, and because all of the donations given to this cause will be collected by the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), they are tax deductible. ”
Anyone interested in making a donation for Jaclyn’s transplant can visit her website, which is hosted by COTA, at http://cotaforjaclynp.com.
