Bernard was presented with his award at a ceremony at Portcullis House Westminster on October 23rd 2008 by MP Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform. The award was in recognition of Bernard’s part in developing the Hearts of Salford website and making it available nationwide at www.heartsofsalford.net. He said. “Okay so I made a lot of mistakes but no-one was ever critical and other members were quick to offer advice and help. Now I feel confident on the internet and can tap into that vast wealth of help and information. I have to confess that I still type with one finger but it gets me around.”
Hearts of Salford is a Heart Support Group that is available nationally online. It has discussion forums on a wide range of topics including health matters. It also serves as a gateway to information about heart disease and healthy living. It is open to people and the families of people living with heart disease and related health conditions.
Bernard says.” I would say anyone with a heart complaint who is reading this isn’t a member of Hearts of Salford give it a go. There is health information and leads to all types of resources, locally, regionally and nationally which are very helpful. There are also forums which can be informative and fun and where you can have a good old natter about life in general and learn from other peoples experiences.
