Great Pinoy gives to charity through membership drive

GreatPinoy.com, the free classified and social networking site for Pinoys (aka Filipino people) will be helping charities through its membership drive.

Once the website reaches 3,000 members, Great Pinoy will donate 10 pesos (about 2 cents U.S.) for each new member who signs up before March 8, the site’s anniversary. At press time, the site had 2,900 members.

Each new member may suggest a charity to which the donation will be made. The top three charities will be selected by Great Pinoy, which will be announced on March 8 on a leading Philippines radio statio”Greatpinoy Ltd. worked hard to create this wonderful website for Pinoys,” Great Pinoy officials said. “We feel that we really out to be putting something back and one way we can do this is by supporting Pinoy charities.”

GreatPinoy.com is a website where Pinoys can connect, debate, sell and network with their friends. They can participate in blogs and forums, upload MP3s and videos and participate in promotions and win prizes. Other features include polls and 39 pages of arcade games. The website also has built-in communication services and classified ads. Site content is available in Pinoy and in English so Pinoys can enjoy the site from wherever they are in the world.

The website is a great way for Pinoy to keep up with events from around the world: The site lists major news and events of interest to Pinoy: from the European ballroom championships to details about Filipino Christmas plans. Likewise, the forum section includes topics specific to Pinoy, such as overseas Filipino workers as well as more general topics for teens and small business owners. The site also hosts such contests as an arcade tournament. The winner of the latest tournament won a digital camera while the second- and third-place winners won watches. Contests and other promotional activities take place regularly.

To register, new members need only type in their username, password, email address, gender, location and date of birth on the site’s sign-up page. They should also read the terms and conditions page before submitting their registration. Current members can tell their friends about the site through an online invitation. Membership is free.

The website is funded through its advertising campaign. Therefore, the charitable donation will not come through its members. “It is like GP members will donate to charity without spending a penny,” Greatpinoy officials said.

“We at Greatpinoy believe that Pinoys are passionate about charities and helping others. So get involved: The more people you invite, the more Greatpinoy Ltd. will donate to charities.”

This is the second membership drive for charity at Greatpinoy.com. The first one, which took place from March 16 to June 16, 2008, gained 450 new members and 4500 pesos for charity. GreatPinoy Ltd. added to that amount for a total donation of 6,000 pesos for the three selected charities.
